CATHY L. CARPENTER DEA

Executive Producer / Producer Creator

Ms. Carpenter Dea is a governor appointed Director for the State Historical Society serving History Colorado. Additionally, she serves as a Trustee for the Western Stock Show Association and is Past Chair and current Senior Advisory Member for the Coors Western Art Show Exhibit and Sale. She served on the 30-person Business Plan Committee for Denver’s new National Western Center. She worked in the securities industry for over 20 years specializing in public finance, institutional bond sales, and branch management with positions at Boettcher & Company, George K. Baum, and Smith Barney. Ms. Carpenter Dea is a CSU alumnae and lifetime horse lover. As an ambassador to CSU’s equine programs, she envisioned and executive produced the documentary “Horse Sense”, showcasing CSU’s world-renowned equine programs and their efforts to advance equine and human health while celebrating the ancient connection between humans and horses. Carpenter Dea also worked closely with Rocky Mountain PBS on the production of the 2016 Emmy-nominated film History of the National Western Stock Show. Cathy is President and CEO of CLCD Productions, LLC and a General Partner of Five Star Energy, LLC.

JULIE SPEER

Director / Writer / Producer

An award winning producer/director, Julie has been creating digital film & video productions since 1998. She has produced and directed over 1,000 video and radio productions, including short documentaries on countless social issues (from HIV in Africa and HEP C in the United States to homelessness, abused children, and poverty), to long form radio and TV shows and commercials. She is the Senior Executive Producer at Rocky Mountain PBS where she is the Executive Producer and Director of the Emmy Award winning TV Series “Colorado Experience” (that she also writes, shoots and edits). She has produced & directed numerous long-form documentaries, including the Emmy Award Winning “Sand Creek Massacre” and “Standing in the Gap”, as well as the Emmy Nominated “Sweet Ambition” and “Haiti’s Small Miracles”, both which premiered at The Denver International Film Festival, aired on PBS, and are used in classrooms around the country. Julie is President & CEO of Julie Speer Productions, Inc. and lives in Denver and Salida, Colorado.

Cort Carpenter is a young creative talent with a background in all facets of the film industry. He is the President/Founder and CEO of Bellicose Pictures LLC. Before graduating from Chapman University’s lauded Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Cort was the Co-Executive Producer of a documentary which landed distribution with Rocky Mountain PBS. After making the move to Los Angeles, Cort made his mark on screen with several small acting roles for television on TBS, “Ground Floor”, Fox, “Bones” and “Glee”, and Showtime currently filming “I’m Dying Up Here” as well as independent film production shorts, “Awake”, “All Is Fair”, “Movie Night”, “Things Luminous”, and “Through the Blind Eye”. Currently, he is producing a featured film “East of Jesus” while simultaneously working in commercial film production.

Born into a ranching family that homesteaded Colorado’s arid lands, Nathan Ward is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, writer and photographer. His work has taken him to nearly 40 countries on six continents to craft stories about mountain cultures, environmental issues, women and girls’ education and more. His 2015 documentary The Rider & The Wolf helped solve the mystery of the disappearance of Mountain Bike Hall of Fame cyclist Mike Rust. www.GritandThistle.com

Andrew Spickert is a Colorado-born photographer and filmmaker who specializes in documentary and nature filmmaking. Informed by his Master’s degree in geology, Andrew’s keen eye for both the micro and macro scales of life helps illuminate each unique subject. As director of marketing for Touchstone Business Advisors, Andrew films, edits, and produces listing videos with business owners looking to sell their livelihood. He is an expert not only with a camera but also in orchestrating the final cut. Andrew’s work is primarily marked by clear, authentic storytelling. He allows the narrative to emerge naturally.
